Welcome to the first edition of our online newsletter. Through this medium we aim to keep our participants and potential participants up to date with our news - from which Operators have recently joined the Reviews to case studies from participants about how they are using the studies to improve their drilling and completions performance.
I do hope that you will find this of interest. We would like you to see this as an opportunity to share with one another your news and views.
We would particularly like to hear about any personal outcomes from the
November ‘Best
Practices’ meeting, including any new procedures that you have adopted
or ideas taken from the meetings.
If you have anything you would like to share with us please email me.
Best wishes for the Season
Helen and the Team.
This has been a very busy year for us. We have had the unusual situation of two Annual Participant meetings and two ‘Benchmarking Best Practices’ meetings within the same year, one for 2004 and the other to launch the 2005 studies.
I am delighted to report that both meetings were highly successful and enabled our participants to meet their counterparts in the industry with a special interest in performance improvement.
A record 69 people attended these meetings recently and enjoyed presentations from BP, ChevronTexaco, ConocoPhillips, Petro-Canada, Shell, Talisman and Unocal.
Additionally presentations about the automation of the collection of data were made by Landmark, Peloton and Spotfire; the role of Technical Limit by Phil Scott and Probabilistic Performance Management by the Peak Group. Rushmore Reviews team presented participants with updates on the website development; drilling normalization & time prediction model and focus on NPT.

As a grand finale to the Best Practice Meeting we held a dinner at Drumtochty Castle which was both well attended and thoroughly enjoyed. By popular request we will be returning there next year. As well as the piper and harpist we could possibly include some highland dancers as well. Many of the participants attended in traditional highland dress and the attendees were treated to Peter's heart-moving talk - explaining the peculiarities of the aquatic as opposed to the land haggis!! Hopefully next year he will have more secrets to tell about the haggis sporrans!
If we collect data on skin, kh and productivity data we can develop a measure of the efficiency of the completion in the ground. This is the exciting proposal which BP put forward to CPR participants. But precisely what data should we collect and what is the best way to analyse it? These are some of the questions which a working group will discuss using email, web forums and video conferencing. For more details of this proposal please click here.
If you have an interest in benchmarking the efficiency of your completions and would like to join in the discussion, or have any comments, please click here.
A number of changes have been made to the content and participation terms of the 2005 studies. For more information about the DPR changes please click here, and for the CPR changes please click here.
We also welcome RWE Dea UK to DPR participation in 2004, this being the first participation by an RWE company in the studies. Husky Canada are participating again in 2004 after a one year break. Pioneer have also recently joined the DPR for the first time with a 2003 South African well and Gabon wells from 2004 to 2008. Talisman have extended their Drilling and Completions participation to cover Norway in 2004 and ConocoPhillips have extended their DPR participation to a global basis from 2004 and have committed to this until 2006.
We are pleased to welcome BG to participation in the Completions Performance Review for the first time on a 'corporate global' basis from 2004 to 2007. We also welcome Addax Nigeria to the CPR for the first time. Nexen have also recently confirmed for 2003 to 2005.

Her final hurdle is a 15,000 word dissertation focusing upon Rushmore Reviews to gain a fuller understanding of the ways in which we can better meet our customer’s needs. Sarah will be particularly focusing on your uses of our website and any changes that you would like to see in the future.
If you would be prepared to have a short telephone conversation with Sarah in the New Year please could you let her know by clicking here. All volunteers will be entered into a mystery prize draw!
